What does a retaining wall cost in the East Bay?
Short answer
Retaining wall cost depends on height, length, material, access and the drainage behind the wall. In the East Bay, slopes and clay soil add excavation and base work. We do not quote from a price list: Alfonso measures on site and gives you a free written estimate, and he responds right away when you call or text.
Height changes everything
A 2–3 ft garden wall and a 4 ft wall are different jobs. Taller walls hold more soil and water, need deeper footings and more drainage, and can need engineering or city review. That is why a 3 ft and a 4 ft wall of the same length are priced differently.
Length, material and finish
Price follows the face area of the wall. Segmental block, stone-faced and stucco-faced walls each cost differently to build, and caps, steps or seat walls add to the scope.
Access, soil and drainage
A back yard reached through a narrow side gate means hand work and more labor. Expansive clay needs a compacted base. Every wall we build gets drain rock and a drain line behind it — skipping that is the most common reason walls lean.
Removing an old wall
Replacing a failed wall adds demolition and haul-off. Sometimes a wall can be repaired instead — see our repair-or-replace guide.
