“Had a great experience with Golden Hills Landscape. They installed pavers, irrigation, rocks, and sod in my backyard and did a fantastic job. Potential solutions

The right fix depends on your slope, soil, existing drainage and an appropriate place to discharge the water. We recommend what fits your yard — we don't diagnose foundation problems, and no drainage work can promise to eliminate all flooding.

Yard drainage installation and repair

New drain lines where water needs a path, or repairs to an existing system that has clogged, broken or settled.

Catch basins and channel drains

Collection points at low spots or along a patio or driveway edge that carry water away in pipe.

French drains where appropriate

Useful for groundwater and soggy ground in some yards — not the answer to every drainage problem. Surface water is often better handled another way.

Downspout extensions and drainage connections

Moving roof water away from the house and into a drain line or a suitable discharge point.

Localized grading improvements

Reshaping soil so water runs away from the house and walkways instead of toward them.

Paver resetting and patio drainage corrections

Lifting sunken pavers, correcting the base and slope, and relaying them so water drains off.

Yard-drain clearing and seasonal preparation

Checking and clearing existing yard drains and outlets before the wet months.

Appropriate erosion-control improvements

Edging, rock, regrading or walls to keep runoff from carrying soil out of beds and slopes.

Drainage questions

Why does water collect in my yard?

Usually a mix of things: East Bay clay soil that drains slowly, low spots or grading that slopes toward the house, downspouts dumping roof water in one place, and patios or pavers that have settled. We look at where the water comes from and where it can go before recommending anything.

Can you improve drainage in a narrow side yard?

Often, yes. Narrow side yards can usually take a channel drain, catch basins or a regraded path. What works depends on the slope, the soil and where the water can be discharged.

Can downspouts connect to a drainage system?

Yes, in many yards downspouts can be tied into solid drain pipe and carried to a suitable discharge point. We check that the outlet location is appropriate before connecting anything.

Do my pavers need replacing, or can they be reset?

Many sunken pavers can be lifted, the base corrected and the same pavers relaid. If pavers are cracked or the base has failed widely, part of the area may need new material. We tell you which after seeing it.

Can work be scheduled during the rainy season?

Yes, but scheduling depends on the weather and ground conditions. Very wet soil can't be graded or compacted properly, so some work waits for dry spells. Assessments can happen any time — seeing the yard during or after rain actually helps.

What affects the cost?

The cause of the problem, the length of drain line, access, soil, what has to be removed and restored (patio, turf, planting), and where the water can be discharged. Pricing follows the on-site assessment, in writing.
